Dr. Cathy Barnes
Principal Investigator/Medical Director
Dr. Barnes is a board-certified Family Medicine physician. After graduating from the University of South Florida in Tampa with her MD, she completed her residency in Gainesville at the University of Florida College of Medicine. Dr. Barnes has been practicing medicine in Florida since 1990. She joined Suncoast Clinical Research in 2017 and has served as PI on more than 50 trials across multiple therapeutic areas, including Alzheimer’s Disease, weight loss, diabetes, migraines, hypertriglyceridemia, and many others.
Andrea Canata, PA-C
Research Investigator
Andrea graduated from University of South Florida in Tampa with a BS in Biology. She obtained her Masters/PA-C in Medical Science from Nova Southeastern University. Andrea has been working as a Sub-Investigator in clinical research since 2011.

Laura Beard
Head of Business Operations
Laura has spent her career in healthcare, beginning as a Practice Manager for a large neurology practice. She has been with Suncoast Clinical Research since 2012, primarily in a Regulatory role.
Krystal Smith
Head of Clinical Operations
Krystal started as a Research Coordinator with Suncoast Clinical Research in 2000. She is the longest term employee with the organization and has mentored and trained many Research Coordinators over the years. She now serves as Director, Clinical Operations.

Mark Mason
Team Lead
Mark started as a Research Coordinator with Suncoast Clinical Research in 2004, over 20 years ago. Prior to starting his career in research, Mark served in the US Army as a Medical Specialist and also as a dialysis patient care technician.
